how it works

Download luey. Add your friends. Start a session when you go out.

That's the whole thing. The rest of this page is the detail, if you want it before the app exists.

simple on purpose

Four steps.

01

Make a group

Roommates, the people you go out with, family, a trip. You can have more than one group. Whoever creates the session starts it. Everyone else can join, leave, or answer.

02

Start a session

A session is the stretch of time your group is looking out for each other. Going out, walking home, a date, a show, a trip. One session at a time. It should not sit on for the rest of your life. You can leave it.

03

Use a gesture if you need to

While a session is on, opening luey shows a quiet screen. Three taps means uncomfortable. A long hold means emergency. Two fingers means I'm good. Swipe right when you want the normal app back.

04

End it when the night ends

Location sharing stops when the session stops. An emergency stays up until someone actually handles it. Closing the app does not clear it.

the quiet screen

A dark screen, on purpose.

You're out. Someone glances at your phone. They should see a plain dark screen, not a map of your friends. While a session is on, that's what luey opens to. Swipe right when you want the normal app back: your group, the session, home.

Three taps

Something feels off and you don't want a scene. Your people get a quiet signal to pay attention.

Press and hold

You need your people now. They can see who, where you last were, and when. luey does not call 911. The hold is long so it doesn't happen by accident.

Two fingers

A quick I'm okay, so nobody has to keep texting the group. A missed check-in is a reason to look, not proof that something happened.

Swipe right

The dark screen steps aside and you see the app again. Your group, the session, home.

luey, a friendly yellow star, resting

No session running.

If nobody has started a session, the map stays quiet.

the map

Where your people are, while the session is on.

You'll see a name, a photo, and a time, so you can tell if a location is fresh. You agree to share. You should always know who can see you, and when that stops.

Phones sleep, signals drop, and permissions change. If a location is old, luey will say so.

A few things to be clear about.

01

luey does not call 911, the police, or an ambulance. A notification to your friends is not emergency services. If you need them, you contact them.

02

A missed "I'm good" is a reason for your people to look. They still use their own judgment.

03

The quiet screen shows up when you open luey during a session. The phone will not pop the app over everything else on its own. Apple doesn't allow that, and we're building with that in mind.
